Monday

The American Century continues:  World War II causes,  effects on USA and the world.  Science – Technological advancements,  reliance on experiments with atomic bomb,  increasing dependence on nonrenewable natural resources such as petroleum products to power the new inventions / technologies.

Tuesday

The American Century continues:  Late 1940s (emergence of Communism),  life in the 1950’s – Duck and Cover,  I like IKE,  Sputnik / Space Race,  Elvis,  Rear Window clip,  cars,  tv in homes,  new conveniences (Science),  standard of living.              Resources:  Study guide / inventions list,  video clips

Wednesday

The American Century continues:

Wrap – up World War II.  V V J sketchings:  Students complete 3 sketchings:  

  1. An IMPORTANT event studied thus far and the Science involved.
  2. A significant invention that changed American lives / Science involved.
  3.  Using Natural Resources in 20th Century America (Oil/gas for cars,  etc).

Thursday

The American Century continues:  The 1960’s- Kennedy/Nixon 1960 election,  technological advances such as color tv, audio/video,  communication,  Moon landing;  Civill rights and MLK,  Andy Griffith,  hippies,  Psycho.

The American Century continues:  Grade #9: The American Century Part II.  Begin examining the 1970’s.
