5th Grade Career Day – Mrs. McClanahan (School Counselor),  speaks to students during 5th Grade Science about future jobs / careers.

1/2 Day Early Release.  5th Graders complete a grade level Science activity.  Students fill in answer / task document as they go into various classrooms and complete Science – based tasks such as charades,  songs,  riddles,  STAAR questions,  rap and rhyme.

Thursday

Students research the effects of WATER,  wind,  ice,  and human activity on Earth’s surface.  Weather permitting – Outdoor observations /  investigations.  In case of inclement weather,  begin Forces that Change Earth’s Surface and Create Landforms:  Mississippi River Delta,  East Texas Rolling Hills,  Oklahoma/California Sand Dunes,  Texas/Arizona Canyons.   STATION 5:  Students work on outdoor erosion / deposition sketchings / drawings.  Fully color & label.        Resources:  Lab supplies / models,  M Minds 19/20  &  20/21  pgs. 89-96,  M Minds 17/18 pgs. 132 – 138.

Compare Simple Mixtures and Special Mixtures – Solutions continues.   Comparison – lab research including food coloring,  water,   sugar.  Use room temperature water to dissolve a solute. Compare to heated water using hotplate.  Compare sand and water to sugar and water.  Salt + water + heat shows thermal energy used to separate water and salt by evaporation.  Compare sugar / saltwater.

This activity will be moved to a later date.  Students will do Physical Science Review activities today.

We begin the 3rd 9 Weeks where we left off with Physical Science Concepts being taught right before Thanksgiving Break.  Remember – students may bring their lab folder home to review and show parents what we are covering.  They are routinely kept in the classroom,  but can be taken home per student asking Mr. McBride.  PLEASE DO NOT LOOSE THE FOLDER,  and HELP YOUR CHILD REMEMBER TO RETURN IT TO THE SCIENCE CLASSROOM.   Thanks!
